We know men often have questions before starting therapy — especially if it’s your first time. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions men ask us about counseling, virtual sessions, and what to expect.
Mister Health Counseling is a Boston-based therapy practice focused exclusively on men’s mental health. We provide virtual counseling for men across Massachusetts, specializing in issues like anxiety, depression, relationships, anger, stress, identity, performance, and intimacy.
No, however Mister Health Counseling is built for men because men’s mental health needs are unique — and often overlooked. By specializing, we can offer strategies, language, and support that meet men where they are. If you think you can benefit from a men’s health specialization, we welcome everyone in our practice regardless of gender.
No — all sessions are virtual and HIPAA-compliant. This makes therapy accessible anywhere in Massachusetts, whether you live in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, or a smaller town.
Sessions are conducted over a secure video platform. You’ll receive a link before each appointment — all you need is a private space and a stable internet connection. Many men appreciate the convenience of attending therapy from home, their office, or even their car during a break.
Standard sessions are 50-55 minutes. Some men prefer shorter check-ins or extended sessions, which can be arranged case by case.
Most men start with weekly sessions for consistency and momentum. As progress builds, we may move to bi-weekly or monthly check-ins. We’ll design a plan that fits your goals and schedule. Ultimately, we want to find a frequency that works for you.
Yes. Mister Health Counseling accepts insurance to ensure greater access to mental health services for men across Massachusetts. Using insurance can make therapy more affordable and help you prioritize your mental health without additional financial stress.
If you prefer not to use insurance, we also offer private pay options. Some men choose this route for greater privacy, flexibility, and control over their care.
If we are not in-network with your insurance provider, we can provide superbills for potential reimbursement. Many men are able to get a portion of their session costs covered this way.
We accept major credit/debit cards as well as HSA/FSA cards for co-pays, deductibles, and private pay sessions. Payment is collected at the time of service.
Fees vary depending on session length and type. Please reach out directly for current rates. While therapy is an investment, many men view it as one of the most impactful decisions they’ve ever made for their mental health and relationships.
Private pay rates vary depending on session type and length. Many men choose private pay for the added confidentiality, flexibility, and freedom it provides outside of insurance requirements.
The first session is about getting to know you — your goals, history, and what’s bringing you here. You won’t be put on the spot or judged. Think of it as a conversation, not an interrogation. From there, we’ll create a plan to help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control.
