Enhanced outpatient treatment for men
More support. More structure. More connection—without putting the rest of your life on hold.
There’s a gap in care
Fifty minutes once a week may not be enough for what you’re carrying. But several hours of treatment, multiple days a week, may be more than you need.
STEP UP™ is the level of care in between.
A short-term outpatient program for men who need more therapeutic contact and connection before things become a crisis—or while transitioning out of IOP or PHP.
The level of care in between
You don’t have to wait until everything falls apart.
Who is STEP UP for?
You’re in therapy, but once a week doesn’t feel like enough.
Your depression or anxiety is getting harder to manage.
You’re functioning—but it’s taking everything you have.
Stress, burnout, anger, or your relationships are taking the hit.
You just finished IOP or PHP, and weekly therapy feels like too big a drop.
You need structure, accountability, and a way to stop doing this alone.
How STEP UP works
Your care is tailored to what you actually need. A typical week may include:
Roughly two sessions a week—more when clinically appropriate. Enough contact to work on what’s actually happening.
One confidential, therapist-led 90-minute group each week. Practical skills, honest talk, and other men.
How often you meet, what you work on, and how long you stay follow your needs and progress.
This isn’t a motivational seminar. It’s therapy.
What we work on
STEP UP supports a wide range of mental-health and life challenges. You do not need a sexual-health concern to belong here.
The men’s group
“Yeah. Me too.”
You don’t have to figure this out alone
You won’t be expected to walk into the first meeting and tell strangers your deepest secrets. Connection develops from there.
A beginning, middle + end
More frequent individual support plus weekly group therapy.
Develop skills, change patterns, and strengthen relationships.
Transition toward weekly therapy with a plan for staying well.
For many clients, STEP UP lasts approximately six to eight weeks. Your actual length of care depends on your individual clinical needs.

Virtual STEP UP care is available throughout Connecticut when clinically appropriate.
For therapists, hospitals + referral partners
STEP UP provides added therapeutic structure for adult men who remain appropriate for outpatient care—including men whose symptoms are worsening or who are transitioning out of IOP or PHP.
Every referral is evaluated individually to determine the right level of care.
The details
No. New clients can be evaluated for STEP UP, and existing clients may transition into the program when clinically appropriate.
Care is individualized. Many clients receive about two individual sessions plus one 90-minute men’s group each week.
For many men, treatment lasts approximately six to eight weeks. The actual length is based on clinical need.
Absolutely not. STEP UP is a men’s mental-health program. Sexual or intimacy concerns may be addressed when relevant, but are never required.
Virtual care may be available depending on clinical appropriateness, your location, clinician licensure, and insurance requirements.
MisterHealth is in-network with many major plans, including Medicaid. Our team can verify your benefits before care begins.
Every situation is different. Our clinicians will determine whether outpatient care is appropriate. STEP UP is not a substitute for emergency, inpatient, PHP, or IOP treatment when those services are clinically necessary.
The goal is to transition you to the least intensive level of care that can safely support your continued progress.
